Although you may not want to think about the state of your finances, there is no getting away from the fact that money is an essential part of everyday life. This article is full of tips that will help you get your finances under control.
Be sure to include your post tax income. For starters, include all after-tax money that you get each month from your salary, alimony, child support, rental income, or other sources. Make sure your expenses are less than your income on a monthly basis. A great way to consolidate many bills into a smaller payment is by getting personal loans and these loans are typically desired because they offer a much lower rate of interest. You can imagine how much money you will save by consolidating higher interest loans into a personal loan with a lower rate.
To make this process effective, you should compose a detailed listing of your expenditures. You need to also include quarterly and yearly payments. Some of these expenses may be home improvement and repair costs, or car maintenance and registration payments. You need to also write down other, smaller things that you pay for daily or weekly, such as child care or grocery shopping. You should make sure that your list is as comprehensive as possible to ensure you have a true picture of what you spend.
There are always things you can eliminate from any budget. One easy thing you can do is bring coffee from home instead of stopping for expensive lattes on the way to work. Seek out anything similar to this that you can get rid of without difficulty prior to putting together a lasting financial plan.
See what improvements you can make to help you lower your utility bills. Windows can be a weak link in your homes armor by letting out heat in the winter and cool air in the summer. Make sure your windows are properly insulated. An on-demand hot water tank is a good way to reduce spending. Have a plumber come out and fix any leaky pipes you have to help lower your monthly water bill. Be sure to run your dishwasher only when it is full, so you can make the best use of it.
If you can, purchase new energy efficient appliances. These energy-saving appliances help you save on your utilities. Also, when you are not using something, unplug it. You can save both money and energy by doing this.
Some home improvements pay for themselves over time with the reduction in utility expenses. For example, replacing your roof and installing new insulation prevents you from losing energy for both heating and cooling because of insufficient structural materials.
Try to save money by being careful with appliances. Even though you are spending money to repair or replace items, you will see a savings in the long run.

Boy do I have exciting news to share. I just got the confirmation from DPA communications director Candace Martin and as of today the Democratic Party can confirm that over 1,280 new people from across the state have signed up to be on their county central committees! Whats more, the numbers arent anywhere near being tallied up! Heres the message Candace sent me:
We have nearly 1280 and are adding new names daily as counties report to us. Less than half of the counties have sent in their full report but we are working with them to make sure every county submits all their paperwork pertaining to county committee membership and other filing matters.
Again, thats with less than half reporting in so far!!! This is really freakin amazing!!! Just a little more than a year ago everyone was writing this party off as dead. If this doesnt show that the Democratic Party of Arkansas is alive and well I dont know what does. These are all people who can be trained to work the VAN, to canvass and make phone calls, to put up signs and just spread the word about the Democratic Partys message and candidates. Whats more, many of these people will be future leaders and voices in our party. And you know what? This is only the beginning. The future of this party looks brighter tonight than it has in a long time.
There are a lot of people who deserve praise for making this happen. We made all kinds of noise on this blog after the 2010 elections to get a new direction going at the DPA and we got it. Will Bond came in with a mandate to get this done and to revive the party and, on his watch, it has happened. The new DPA team has gotten things moving in a new direction and while there is still work to do and the journey to this point hasnt been easy this still shows theyve done good work. And of course there are the Republicans, who in their quest to take America back to the dark ages have scared all kinds of people into the ranks of the Democratic Party. Last, but not least, I dont think anyone would argue that Gary Phillips, the second vice chair of the DPA and the chair of the Mississippi County Democrats was a real driving force behind this. The rule change that lead to this was Garys baby, and hes pushed long and hard to make revitalization of county committees a priority for Democrats. If youd never heard of Gary before now, trust me, youd better jot the name down. A lot of folks across the state are looking at him as a future DPA chairman or even a candidate for statewide office down the road. Whatever he ends up doing, this blog will have his back, and for good reason.
So, its a new day in the Democratic Party. And the best part is that the count isnt even done yet. Weve still got counties waiting to report in on the new numbers, and the number of new Democrats joining the party at the grassroots level could be off the charts!

The Herald talked to Lauren Conrad in a phone interview for todays paper (check out the story here) but we had a little extra from the former Hills star that we couldnt fit in the paper. You can see Lauren in person on Thursday at 6 pm at the Barnes amp; Noble on Boylston Street!
How did working on The Fame Game [her new book] differ from LA Candy?
The process is a little smoother. When I was doing LA Candy, it was all very new. It was definitely a learning process! I’ve learned how to deal with outlines and deadlines, so now I get to have fun, and because I was creating characters it was a little more fun.
As far as working on the storylines, it was different than LA Candy because I already had a loose storyline for that, because it was so similar to my own. Coming up with the original [material], it was a little bit of a challenge but it was really fun.
Breaking away from your own storyline in this book, how did you change the characters?
One of the main things I wanted to do with Madison was show Hollywood from the point of view of someone who craves the attention. She plays the game, and she never allows herself to be victimized by the media. She enjoys it and she understands it. But I also wanted to humanize her and make her less hard to relate to. And I wanted to tell a funny story!
A lot of your fans are, of course, younger girls. What is the message you want them to take away from the book?
The whole lifestyle had been glamorized for so long, and when you’re involved in entertainment people are so quick to criticize. I wanted to pull back the curtain and give a look to what its like. There’s more than meets the eye.
What’s next for Madison Parker?
I’m writing a series of three, it’s gonna be a trilogyin the next book she gets a love interest. I was really excited to give her a boy. The men in her life have been very expendable, and I wanted to give her real feelings for someone to humanize her more.

A new study profiling 265 profitable Fortune 500 companies finds that multiple North Carolina-based companies have been able to sharply reduce their state corporate income tax bills, likely costing North Carolina millions.
“Corporate Tax Dodging in the Fifty States, 2008-2010″ was released Wednesday by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) and Citizens for Tax Justice (CTJ) in conjunction with the North Carolina Budget amp; Tax Center.
The report finds a total of 68 companies that paid no state corporate income tax in at least one of the last three years, and 20 of them averaged a tax rate of zero or less during the 2008-2010 period. In North Carolina, six of the 11 profitable Fortune 500 companies headquartered here paid tax rates below 4 percent of the profits they earned during that three-year period.
“Our report shows these 265 corporations raked in a combined $1.33 trillion in profits in the last three years, and far too many have managed to shelter half or more of their profits from state taxes,” said Matthew Gardner, Executive Director at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy and the report’s co-author.
The authors of the report say the findings are significant as states are cutting or eliminating services to cope with sizable budget deficits.
At the time of the release of the report, North Carolina lawmakers gathered for the Revenue Laws Study Committee meeting where they are considering new legislation that would make it even easier for multi-state corporations to avoid paying taxes.
Edwin McLenaghan, an analyst with the NC Budget and Tax Center, says instead of opening the door to even more corporate tax avoidance, lawmakers should enact clear rules that ensure all companies contribute to the schools, roads and quality of life that are critical to a strong economy,
McLenaghan, who recently appeared on News and Views, says one of the single most important corporate tax reforms available to North Carolina is a practice used by 23 states called “combined reporting.”

A new report from the Center for Responsible Lending offers a stark view of just how far we have to go before the foreclosure crisis is behind us. Here are just a few of the findings from Lost Ground, 2011: Disparities in Mortgage Lending and Foreclosures:
1. We are not even halfway through the foreclosure crisis.6.4 percent of mortgages made between 2004 and 2008 have ended in foreclosure, and an additional 8.3 percent are at immediate, serious risk.
2. Loan characteristics and foreclosures are strongly linked.
3. Although the majority of affected borrowers have been white, African-American and Latino borrowers are almost twice as likely to have been impacted by the crisis.
4. Racial and ethnic differences in foreclosure rates persist even after accounting for differences in borrower incomes.
5. Loan type and race and ethnicity are strongly linked. African Americans and Latinos were much more likely to receive high interest rate (subprime) loans and loans with features that are associated with higher foreclosures, specifically prepayment penalties and hybrid or option ARMs.
6. Foreclosure rates by income groupings vary by housing markets.
7. Impacts vary by neighborhood. Low- and moderate-income neighborhoods and neighborhoods with high concentrations of minority residents have been hit especially hard by the foreclosure crisis.
You can read the full report here.
